52 Weekly Goals to Make This Year Amazing

Now the new year is in full swing, you may be thinking about the goals and aspirations you want to achieve this year. I am a big believer in goal setting, but when it comes to new year goals and resolutions, I urge you to proceed with caution and consider smaller, weekly goals.

Too many times we will set these ambition goals for the year and then become despondent by the end of January.

That is why, this year, I am going to embrace the idea of weekly goals. These goals will not change the world, or drastically alter your life overnight but they will help with self development, self-care, health and productivity, all without stressing you out.

The aim of these goals are that they are small enough to be doable without too much extra stress or pressure added to your week.

They may be small, but you will be astounded by the impact small weekly goals can have on your mindset and your life.

Below, I have curated a list of 52 weekly goals, one for each week of the year, that are sure to make this year your best yet!

I challenge you to complete each goal on the list and then report your progress in the comment section at the bottom of the page.

But if one goal doesn’t speak to you, feel free to substitute your own goals in! Just make sure that they are low stress, healthy and achievable in your day to day life.

1. PRACTICE GRATITUDE

Practising gratitude is such a simple idea. But by just being consciously grateful for what you already have, you can build a more positive mindset and improve your overall mental health. Start by simply listing 3 things that you are grateful for each day this week.

2. Read a Book

Commit to finishing a book by the end of the week. Reading has so many benefits, from enhancing your knowledge to improving your communication skills. Personally, I love reading as a form of escapism.

3. Exercise Regularly

Aim for 30 minutes of exercise 3 times this week and see the improvement in your mood, confidence and health. I know the gym is not for everyone, but finding your favourite type of exercise will set you up for life. Once you have found your way of exercising, you can aim for at least 3 times per week to keep you fit and healthy.

4. Learn Something New

Learning should not stop after we graduate! Take a course, watch a tutorial, or read some articles on a topic you’re interested in. It is never too late to start learning something new.

5. Connect with a Friend

Schedule time to catch up with a friend this week. Adulting and keeping a social life can be very difficult when everyone has such hectic lives. Make an effort to keep in touch with your friends so you don’t accidentally isolate yourself.

Set weekly goal to connect with your friends

6. Declutter a Space

Dedicate time to declutter and organise one area of your home this week. Having a cluttered home can cause unnecessary stress. Making a point to tidy, throw out or sell what you no longer need this week will help you start to cleanse your home and your life.

7. Try a New Recipe

It is so easy to stick to what we know when it comes to cooking. Especially as by the time dinner comes around, we are often too tired to be creative in the kitchen. I challenge you to broaden your horizons and cook a new and healthy recipe for yourself or loved ones this week.

8. Digital Detox Day

Spend a day without excessive use of electronic devices. Put your phone on silent and try to reconnect with yourself and the world around you. I would encourage you to take this goal and carry it on after this week too!

9. Set a Budget

Setting yourself a realistic budget can help you keep track of your spending and consciously improve how you spend and save. If you are new to budgeting, make sure to avoid these 8 Destructive Budgeting Mistakes that could ruin your finances!

10. Mindful Eating Week

Life is so hectic that we often eat on the go or whilst sat in front of a screen. This week I want you to focus on savouring each meal without distractions. Be present and have a relaxed meal for once!

11. Volunteer your time

Find a local volunteering opportunity and contribute your time. This could be help out at your local food bank, charity shop or even a local charity event.

12. Practice a Hobby

Sometimes you just need to dedicate your time to yourself and what makes your heart happy. This week use your spare time to practice a hobby that you enjoy, with no expectation to earn money or improve your life.

13. Career Development

Set a professional goal for the week, such as updating your CV/resume or networking in your industry. If your current career is not making you happy, you could even spend this week looking into other options.

14. Write a Journal Entry

Reflect on your week and write down your thoughts and feelings about life at the moment. Journaling is a great way of organising your thoughts and becoming more in tune with your emotions and feelings.

15. Hydration Challenge

Make an effort to ensure you drink enough water every day for the entire week. I am not going to tell you to drink a certain amount of water each day as the volume you need depends on many factors such as your sex, weight and activity level. If you want to find out how much water you should be drinking there are many hydration calculators available online. If you often forget to drink, this 1 Litre BPA Free Water bottle with time markers will help to remind you to drink enough at regular intervals.

16. Random Act of Kindness

Perform one random act of kindness for someone else this week. Carry someone’s shopping to the car if you see them struggling. Or simply pay a compliment to a stranger.

17. Learn Some Sign Language

This is my latest personal goal and I have to say it is my favourite by far! Learning sign language will not only help with communication, but it can have a profound, positive impact on your cognitive ability, spatial reasoning, reaction time and even peripheral vision. Give it a go this week, you never know when it might come in handy! (pun fully intended!).

18. ROMANTICISE YOUR LIFE

Being able to romanticise your life romanticise your life is a great skill to have. It can help your positivity and will let you see your life in a new and beautiful light. This will also help you be mindful and more present.

19. Learn a Productivity Technique

Explore and implement a new productivity technique. Keeping your productivity levels up all year can be very tricky, so finding new techniques to help can be invaluable. If you are looking for ideas, I would highly recommend the Pomodoro technique.

20. Express yourself Creatively

It is time to add some creativity to your weekly goals! Express yourself through art, writing, music or any other creative outlet that inspires you.

21. Focus on family Time

Time with family is precious. Make sure you take time out of crushing your goals this week to go and connect with your loved ones. They will appreciate it more than you know!

22. Evaluate your Goals

It’s time to use your weekly goals to help your more long term goals. This week I want you to review and adjust your long-term goals based on how you feel about them now and the progress you have made.

23. Explore local Nature

Spend time outdoors in your local area this week. Whether you have outstanding hiking trails near you or just a small park to have a picnic, connecting to your surroundings is an incredible way to spend your free time.

24. Meal Prep for the Week

Plan and prepare meals ahead of time for the upcoming week. Preparing multiple meals in advanced is a great way to save money and time. Meal prep also tends to be healthier than having to think of making a meal when you are already hungry, as you will subconsciously favour quicker meals which could leave you reaching for the ready meals.

25. Digital Organisation

Organise your digital files and folders. This is something we all mean to do but never get around to. So commit to it this week and finally make your life a bit easier!

26. Learn a Life Skill

Acquire a new practical skill that can improve your life. Use this weekly goal to broaden your knowledge. From flower arranging to wood work (please practice safely) the world is your oyster!

27. BECOME A MORNING PERSON

Becoming a Morning Person changed my Life! It has countless benefits, it can help you get more work done, and improve your productivity because after a good morning routine, you will feel ready to face anything the day can throw at you!

Set weekly goals to become a morning person

28. LISTEN TO HAPPY MUSIC

I  challenge you to only listen to happy music for the whole week! Listening to happy music can boost your mood and help you see your life with a more positive attitude. It also releases the “feel good” hormone, Dopamine.

29. Social Media Detox

Take a break from social media for the entire week. This is a great idea if you are constantly on devices for work but find yourself getting distracted by social media.

30. Financial Review

Assess your investments and savings goals and see if there is any part of how you handle your finances that you can improve upon. There are so many ways you can instantly improve your finances. Doing this will set you up for life and can help you save quicker and live better.

31. Express Appreciation

Write a note or express gratitude to someone who has positively impacted your life. Send a little text to your best friend or gift flowers to your parents. Let your loved ones know how much you appreciate them.

Try a new fitness challenge or workout routine this week. Exercise can often get repetitive and boring so find a fitness challenge to spur you on and reignite your motivation!

33. GO OUTSIDE EVERY DAY

Getting outside is a great and simple way to give yourself a small mood boost every day. It is especially beneficial if it is sunny as getting Vitamin D is essential for your mental health.

34. Stop complaining for a whole week

You wouldn’t believe how much your own complaining can impact your mood and mindset. If you are complaining a lot then you are telling yourself that you are not happy with your life and that nothing is going right. As soon as you limit your complaints, you open yourself up to being more positive, and being able to see all of the good things in your life.

35. Learn a Language

37. Review how you talk to yourself

Sit down and think about how you speak to yourself and the view you have of yourself. So many of us talk to ourselves negatively and often think we are not good enough. Take some time to consider yourself and commit to areas to improve on.

38. Do a Walk Week

Incorporate walking into your daily routine for a week. Either take a walk through nature everyday before work or even substitute your usual commute for a brisk walk.

walking everyday is a great weekly goal

39. LEARN HOW TO MAKE MONEY WHILE YOU SLEEP

Learning how to make passive income is the secret to reaching financial freedom. If you can make money whilst you sleep, your earning potential will never be limited by the time you have per day. If you don’t know where to start, here is my guide to Passive Income for Beginners.

40. DON’T TALK NEGATIVELY ABOUT YOURSELF

If you talk negatively to yourself, your self-confidence will be low and your insecurities will always be able to control you. And if you talk negatively about yourself in front of others, you are affectively setting the bench mark for how they can treat you. This week I encourage you to incorporate some nice things about yourself into your inner monologue and you will soon feel a difference.

41. CUT OUT UNUSED SUBSCRIPTIONS

Many of us sign up to different subscriptions services and then forget to make use of them. Look at all of your subscriptions and see if you can cut out any of them to save yourself some money every month.

42. Random Learning Day

Spend a day learning about a completely new topic. It doesn’t have to be useful or applicable to daily life. Get researching whatever you are curious about and see what you can learn.

43. Healthy Snacking

We are all guilty of snacking. In fact, snacking can often give you that boost you need to get through the day. But snacking is often very unhealthy. This week I challenge you to test out some healthy snacks and put down the processed ones.

44. Set up an EMERGENCY FUND

An emergency fund is a pot of money that you set aside and only use in emergencies, like your car breaking down, or your kitchen flooding. Many people choose to save a few months worth of bills in case they can’t work for a while due to unforeseen circumstances. Start one this week to prepare for your financial future.

45. Celebrate Achievements

No matter how small, you should always celebrate the things you are proud of! Life is not just about the big achievements like promotions and marriage. So if you are proud of something this week, CELEBRATE! It will do wonders for your motivation and mindset.

46. Review Your Vision Board

Check your vision board for the year, how is everything going? Are you living the year that you imagined? Can you do anything to reach your goals this week? Have your goals changed? Review your vision board, visualise your goals and make any necessary changes.

47. Write a Letter to your future self

Send a handwritten letter to yourself for you to open in 1, 5 or even 10 years time. Explain where you are in life, your current outlook on life and your dreams for the future.

48. Master a Fun Skill

Learn a quick skill, like juggling or a magic trick. Next time you go to a party, impress your friends with a new party trick! Life doesn’t have to be serious all the time!

49. WRITE DOWN THE BEST PART OF EACH DAY

My favourite way to end the day is writing one sentence about what I loved about the day. It doesn’t have to be much, just something that made you smile. Soon you will have a collection of positive things that have happened in your life that you can look back on.

50. Deep Clean a Room

Cleaning the whole house is much too overwhelming. This week, set some time aside to do a thorough clean of one room in your home. Every little helps!

51. Cut out alcohol for a week

Cutting down on alcohol is a great way to improve your health. Taking a week off from alcohol can help you clear your head and give your liver a nice little break!

52. DECLUTTER YOUR WARDROBE

We all have clothes we don’t wear anymore. So why not have a clear out this week to save space and make it easier to find the clothes you want every day. You could even sell your second-hand clothes on ebay or vinted to make a little money too.
