We all spend so much time online and on apps, but instead of endlessly scrolling, why not use that time to save money? There are a few little-known apps that you need to save money!
Whether you’re paying off debt, saving for your future or simply do not want to live paycheck to paycheck, being mindful with your money and learning how to save it is a very useful skill.
Lucky for us, there are so many websites out there now that can help you save money in your day to day life.
I have always loved a bargain and even before I started to worry about money I was always trying to find a discount code or cashback app that would help me when I was (over) spending!
Here are my top apps and websites that have saved me hundreds of pounds.
TopCashback
TopCashback is the most well-known site on this list and for good reason.
It is an online cashback and coupon site that launched here in the UK in 2005 and was made available to the US market in 2011.
It is free to use and will give you cashback when you shop at thousands of big online stores.
The average user earns £345 (over $400) per year!
How it works
When you are about to buy something online, log in to topcashback and search the store you want.
This will give you the percentage cashback you can receive and a link to the shop.
When you buy through this link, Topcashback will track this purchase, earn a commission from it and then share a portion of that with you. It will not cost you anything extra.
On top of that they also have coupons that you can often “stack” with cashback so you save on your initial purchase, and earn cashback afterwards.
Though it can take a while for the cashback to be made payable in your account, it is truly unique as you can then withdraw any cashback earned with no minimum! Meaning you could withdraw £0.01 if you wanted to.
You can also withdraw your cashback as gift cards where they often give you a payout bonus, giving you even more to spend!
I have been using TopCashback for years now and have never had any problems with the paying out process unlike some other sites.
TIP: If you are making a big purchase such as a phone, laptop or washing machine ALWAYS check Topcashback before you choose which store to purchase from. It is the big purchases where you can really save money.
PLUS if you sign up with my referral link you will get a £10 bonus (once you earn your first £10). I will also get a little bonus so if you use my link, thank you!
Reliked
Reliked sells new and pre-loved fashion and home items from celebrities and influencers at up to 70% off the RRP. They also have a very large Beauty section full of some of the latest makeup releases, all of which are new and unopened!
I love reliked because all items are heavily discounted, they are helping to stop the fast fashion movement and they donate a minimum of 5% of product sales to charity.
TIP: Because all of the items are from Influencers and celebrities there is usually only ONE of each thing. So if you want something, snap it up quick!
Shopmium + GreenJinn
Next, I have grouped these two apps together as they both help you save on your regular, supermarket grocery shop. But each one offers a variation of products so it is worth downloading both.
How do they work?
Check each app for what products they currently have offers on and save them, then just shop as normal at your favourite supermarket, take a picture of your receipt with the app and BOOM, you will get cashback on certain items once the receipt has been approved.
Shopmium will ask you to scan the product barcodes as well as the receipt.
I have found that Shopmium currently offers more items that I am likely to buy and even offers 100% cashback on certain items.
However, Greenjinn has offers at a wider range of supermarkets and boasts a saving of up to £1,500 per year!
They are both free to use so why not download both and double your ability to save money.
Hopper
Hopper is an online Travel agency app that helps you find the cheapest deals on flights, hotels and car rentals around the world.
It tracks when flights and hotels will be cheapest so you know when to book and when to travel.
It is completely free and has some great features to help you save money on your next trip.
Hopper allows you to “freeze” a fare, meaning you can freeze the price of a hotel or flight so it does not increase before you have fully committed. You pay a non-refundable deposit, and then pay the rest within the freeze time. (if you decide not to book you will lose your deposit).
They also have special offers using their “Carrot Cash” (equivalent to $1) which you can use to get more money off.
So far, I have only used Hopper to compare prices of flights and hotels. I then booked directly with the airline and hotel. This was just to protect me if any problems arose so I could easily contact customer service.
As Hopper is free, it is totally worth downloading, even if you are just going to use it to compare the best rates.
Cosmetify
If you are a beauty and makeup junkie like me, I am sure you have felt a certain amount of guilt for “wasting” money on products that are not “essential”. It was this guilt that made me spend hours searching for a product on each beauty website before buying it in hopes that I would find it in the sale somewhere.
Luckily, with Cosmetify those days are gone.
Cosmetify is a platform where you can compare prices on 57,600 beauty products across all of the major beauty websites.
I like to think of it as a search engine for all things beauty related and it has honestly saved me HUNDREDS!
It is completely free to use and features thousands of the top brands so you will not be disappointed.
They even have a Price Alert feature that you can sign up to and it will email you when your chosen product has gone down in price.
My favourite part of cosmetify is that it specifies the price down to each shade. This solves the disappointment you feel when you see your favourite product in the sale, only to realise your certain shade isn’t reduced.
There you have it. 5 Websites and Apps you need to save money. Whether you are a beauty junkie like me, love to travel or are just trying to save the pennies on your necessary day to day items, there are ways to save everywhere.
Using all of these simple sites combined, I managed cut down my spending and save at least £200/month!
When it comes to improving your financial life, every step you take, no matter how small, will help you towards financial freedom. Try these sites and you’ll soon see what a difference frequent, small savings can make.
