How to Organise Multiple Side Hustles

With the cost of living rising and wages showing no signs of catching up, finding alternative income sources is becoming the new normal. Unfortunately, many people have to start side hustles in their free time just to cover their basic living costs now.  But with a full-time job, life, leisure and relationships to think about too, learning how to organise multiple side hustles could be the key to staying on top of everything whilst making extra money and avoiding burnout.

Alternatively, you could be venturing into multiple side hustles to boost your savings and strive for financial freedom. I’m a big believer in financial freedom being possible for anyone and side hustles play a major role in that. If you can create some passive income streams too you will be one big step closer to the life of your dreams.

Whether it’s to pursue a passion project, to diversify your income streams, or simply to make ends meet, deciding to manage multiple income streams can be both exciting and daunting.

But it can be done!

With the right strategies in place and a good understanding of your own productivity, you can effectively organise multiple side hustles and still make the most of your free time.

Having managed multiple side hustles since I was 16, I have found that organisation is crucial! Here are all of my tips on how to organise multiple side hustles without getting overwhelmed or confused by everything!

Prioritise

First and foremost, it’s crucial to prioritise. That’s prioritising your other responsibilities with your side hustles as well as prioritising within your various side hustles.

Side hustles are just that, they are meant to be on the side. So make sure you know what to prioritise above them. As a rule, it is obviously important to prioritise your health, your family and your primary source of income above any hustles. But then you can use your own discretion with the remaining order of priorities based on how serious you are about your side income.

If you need a secondary income to cover your necessary bills then you will most certainly prioritise your side hustles higher than where someone who is just looking to boost their savings would.

When it comes to prioritising within your various side hustles, you could do this in many different ways. You could do this based on your goals, interests, the time they take or their earning potential.

Not all hustles are created equal and some may require more time and effort than others. Identify which ones align best with your long-term goals and current time constraints and focus your energy accordingly.

Schedule Your Free Time

Organise your time for side hustles

Time management is key when juggling multiple side hustles. If you normally just “wing it” and do side hustles when you get the chance, this is where I’m going to strongly encourage you to get your planner out and try to be disciplined with yourself and your time.

I used to just “wing it” and it worked well for a while, but when you start to build up the number of side hustles you have, it quickly becomes overwhelming and I definitely felt like I was about to drop all the metaphorical plates I had in the air!

Get organised now by blocking out your free time and creating a schedule that allocates specific time blocks for each hustle.

One of my favourite tips is always starting with a quick and easy hustle before moving on to a more in-depth one. This builds momentum and helps you get an easy tick in your win column for the day.

Once you have found a system that works, stick to your schedule religiously to ensure maximum productivity.

Integrate Them into your Daily Routine

When it comes to quicker side hustles such as taking surveys and website testing, integrating them into your daily routine can be a great way to make money when you are in a time crunch.

Instead of leaving all of your side hustles until you have a block of time free, you can find simple ways to integrate them seamlessly into your day.

For example, if you’re a freelance writer, you could brainstorm ideas while commuting. Personally, I have integrated taking online surveys into my morning phone routine. (Of course, I do not encourage a morning social media routine before you have got out of bed, but let’s face it, whenever it is, we all have a phone routine of sorts in the morning!).

By weaving your hustles into your everyday life, you can keep making money even when your schedule is too busy for your bigger side hustles.

Track your Earnings

Track your side hustle earnings to organise multiple side hustles

When considering ways to organise multiple side hustles, it is not just time that you need to think about. Running multiple income streams can mean that your finances can get very messy very quickly.

If you’re not careful, you can end up with tiny pots of money all over the place, with payments always in the pipeline at various times, to various accounts. Before you know it, you don’t know when you are owed money, you don’t know where a particularly payment came from and you could have money sitting in an app just waiting for you to cash out.

Streamline your finances is therefore a must. Open a bank account specifically for your side income so it doesn’t get entangled with your day to day spending.

This not only simplifies tracking but will also make it much easier for you to report for tax. Don’t worry, in the UK you don’t have to report side hustle income until you have made over £1000.

Once you have your very own side hustle pot, you can then see exactly what you have earned and can use the money accordingly. Set aside a portion for savings, investments or expenses, or finally treat yourself after all of your hard work!

Cash Out Everything at Once

In an effort to avoid many tiny pots of money sitting in various side hustle apps and cashback websites, I would encourage you to  consolidate your cash out times.

When it comes to my (numerous) survey apps, I cash them all out on the first of every month. This way I never leave money sitting there for too long, and I don’t forget any apps if I haven’t used them in a few weeks. It is also not good practice to leave your money sitting in any app, just in case the app experiences technical issues.

Unfortunately, you can’t choose the cash out date for some side hustles, but I would strongly recommend combining as many as you can. Apart from staying organised and never forgetting about a pot of money, it can create your very own mini payday which I have found to be very satisfying and motivating for the month ahead!

Clear Unused Apps Regularly

Clear out side hustle apps that you are not using to stay organised

With the plethora of side hustle opportunities available online, it’s easy to get carried away and sign up for numerous platforms and apps. However, not all of them will yield fruitful results.

At time of writing this, I have 41 side hustle apps on my phone. Whether it is for surveys, mystery shopping, market research, website testing, or free money offers, apps can quickly start adding up!

It is therefore crucial that you periodically evaluate the performance of each app and weed out the ones that you are not getting use out of. Just remember to check you do not have any money owed to you before you delete it!

Focus your time and energy on platforms that offer the most value and earning potential.

This is by far the quickest and most effective thing you can do to try to organise multiple side hustles. So once you finish this article, open your phone and start with this!

Focus on One When Starting

Whilst this is an article all about how to organise multiple side hustles, I feel it is my duty to tell you that sometimes, juggling multiple side hustles can actually hinder your money making abilities!

When embarking on your side hustling journey, it’s tempting to dive headfirst into multiple ventures simultaneously. However, spreading yourself too thin can hinder your progress and dilute your focus.

If you are starting a new side hustle, concentrate on getting it set up and mastering it before re-expanding to your others. Once you’ve established a solid foundation, you can gradually incorporate additional side hustles into your portfolio. Once you have got your new hustle established, you can then easily see how and where it can fit into your existing side hustle schedule.

Conclusion

There are many reasons you may want or need to start multiple side hustles in your free time. Making extra money is a great pursuit, but it can become stressful when the pressure is on.

Managing multiple side hustles may seem daunting at first, but with the right strategies and mindset, it’s entirely achievable. By setting clear priorities, scheduling your time effectively, and keeping track of everything, you can successfully navigate the world of side hustling without risking burnout.

Remember, every side hustle has the potential to become a lucrative and personally fulfilling endeavour. So just make sure you are not stressing and putting too much pressure on yourself as this will surely provide a one way ticket to burnout.

Here’s your official sign to pour some coffee, open your planner and get going on all of your side hustle dreams!
